Piping

Piping Problems

Are you dealing with a piping problem? Perhaps you don’t have enough money to hire a plumber? Or maybe you just want to fix your own piping problems? There are a number of things you should look for when you think you might have a leak. First and foremost, your water bill might be higher than normal if you happen to have a leak in your piping. You might also hear the sound of running water or dripping water even when all of your fixtures are turned off. The first thing you should do when you think you have a leak is to turn off all of your faucets. Make sure they are tightly closed. Finally, go check out your water meter. If the dial continues to move then you’re losing water within the system somewhere. This means that there must be a leak somewhere in your piping.

So how do I locate the leak in my piping? There are a number of things you can do to help you find the leak in your piping. First, you should try to listen for the sound of running water. If you happen to hear a dripping noise or the sound of running water then simply follow it. The sound will lead you to the source of your problem. If you want you can purchase a listening device which helps your amplify sounds. Simply hold the device up to the pipe and follow it to the leak. If your pipes are located above the ceiling then you’ll probably be able to notice staining around the ceiling panels which will mark the location of your leak. If the leaks do not make any noise or are not visible due to staining then they’ll be much more difficult to locate. You’ll have to check each inch of pipe until you find the leak.

When fixing your piping problem remember that it is a good idea to always turn off the main water shut off valve before proceeding. This will ensure that you do not get splattered with water and there is less of a less to clean up after everything is all finished.
